Communicating with the class teacher is very important. If your child sees you using Irish with the teacher it gives them a confidence to use Gaeilge and they will see the importance of the Irish language.
The following is a list of suitable phrases and sentences you could use when sending a message about your child to Gaelscoil Longfoirt.
- Beidh Áine as láthair ar feadh coicíse i mí Meithimh.
Áine will be absent for a fortnight in June.
- Tá an chlann go léir ag dul ar saoire.
All the Family are going on holidays
- Críochnóidh sí ar scoil ar an 12 Meitheamh agus beidh sí ar ais ar scoil ar an 27 Meitheamh.
She will finish school on June 12 and she will be back in school on June 27.
- Níl aon obair bhaile déanta ag Orlaith.
Orlaith didn’t do her homework.
- Níor bhraith sí go ró-mhaith nuair a tháinig sí abhaile ón scoil.
She didn’t feel too well when she came home from school.
- Chaith sí an trathnóna sa leaba
She spent the evening in bed.
- Déanfaidh sí anocht é
She will do it tonight.
- Ní raibh Úna ar scoil inné mar bhí a scórnach an-tinn
Úna wasn’t in school yesterday because her throat was very sore.
- Beidh Caoimhe as láthair ón scoil ó 9 Samhain go dtí 24 Samhain.
Caoimhe will not be in school from November 9th to November 24th.
- Beidh sí ag dul faoi scian in ospidéal chun a céislíní a bhaint amach.
She is having an operation to have her tonsils taken out.
- Or Beidh sí ag dul faoi obráid in ospidéal chun a Céislíní a bhaint amach.
She is having an operation to have her tonsils taken out.
- Beidh Bríd as láthair amárach (8 Meitheamh) mar beidh uirthi dul go dtí an t-ospidéal chun an plástar a bhaint dá cos.
Bríd will not be in school tomorrow (June 8) as she has to go to the hospital to get the plastar on her leg removed.
- Beidh Aoife déanach ag teacht ar scoil amárach (18 Meán Fómhair).
Aoife will be late coming to school tomorrow (18 September).
- Tá coinne aici leis an bhfiaclóir ag 9 rn.
She has an appointment with the dentist at 9 am.
- Gortaíodh Dónall le linn cluiche iománaíochta ar an Satharn. Tógadh go dtí an t-ospidéal é, áit ar chaith sé an oíche. Tá orainn dul ar ais go dtí an t-ospidéal inniu chun x-ghathú a fháil ar a chos chlé
Dónall was hurt during a hurling game on Saturday. He was taken to hospital and spend the night there. We have to go back to the hospital today to get an x-ray on his left leg.
- Tá deilgneach ar Chiara. Dúirt an dochtúir liom í a choimeád ón scoil ar feadh coicíse
Ciara has chicken pox. The doctor said to keep her at home from school for a fortnight.
- Tá múchadh ar Lúc agus níl cead aige ag rith.
Lúc has asma and he is not allowed to run.
- Thit Pádraig anuas ó rothar agus ghortaigh sé a ghlúin. Níl siúl ceart aige go fóill agus tá air maidí croise a úsáid.
Pádraig fell from a bike and he hurt his knee. He can’t walk properly and he has to use crutches.
- Bhí na faireoga sa mhuineál ataithe. Ní raibh sé in ann ithe.
His glands in his neck were swollen and he wasn’t able to eat.
- Bhris Tomás caol a láimhe agus ní bheidh sé in ann scríobh ar feadh cúig seachtaine.
Tomás broke his wrist and he won’t be able to write for five weeks.
- Níl aon obair bhaile déanta ag Oisín. Leag sé cupán tae te anuas air féin. Dódh a lámh agus bhí orm dul go dtí an tAonad Timpiste agus Éigeandála leis. Bhí sé déanach nuair a thángamar abhaile.
Oisín hasn’t done any homework. He knocked a cup of hot tea on himself. He burned his hand and I had to go to A&E with him. It was late when we got home.
- Níl aon léitheoireacht déanta ag Lúsaí mar bhí laraingíteas uirthi.
Lúsaí hasn’t done any reading as she had laryngitis.
- Tá spotaí dearga ar aghaidh Ríona. Níl said tógálach
There are red spots on Ríona’s face. They are not contagious.

Gearóidín hasn’t done any spellings because the page wasn’t in her bag.
- Níl aon Mhata déanta ag Gearóidín mar ní raibh an leabhar in a mála
Gearóidín hasn’t done any maths because the book wasn’t in her bag.
- Níor chríochnaigh Peadar a obair bhaile aréir. Bhí sé tar éis uair go leith a chaitheamh uirthi. Níl na habairtí Gaeilge críochnaithe. Críochnóidh sé anocht iad.
Peadar didn’t finish his homework last night. He was after spending 1½ hours on it. The sentences in Irish aren’t finished. He will finish them tonight.
